Life as a former Copy Intern, now full-time Associate Copywriter

Naya | Associate Copywriter | United States | 9/25/2023

Naya joined Avalere Health as a copy intern in 2022. Upon completion of her 10-week summer internship, Naya accepted a full-time offer within our US Marketing team. Today, she reflects on the successes and key learnings of her journey from Intern to Associate Copywriter.

What prompted you to pursue an internship at Avalere Health?

I knew I wanted to explore copywriting shortly after graduating from college. I came across Avalere Health’s job post for a copy intern on a recruitment platform called Handshake and explored the organization’s website. The description of Avalere Health’s mission and values really resonated with me, so I was excited to apply for the position!

What was the hiring process like?

It was a very seamless process! I had two interviews: One was over the phone with a member of the Talent team, and the second was a video call with my soon-to-be manager. Shortly after my second interview, I received an offer letter.

What were the key learnings of your internship experience?

There are three key things I took forward with me as my internship came to a close:

  1. Working in a team is incredibly rewarding—not only do you always have someone to bounce ideas off of, but you can celebrate your wins together and support each other through the stumbles.
  2. Every mistake made is an opportunity for growth, so there is no wrong step as long as you are learning and growing from it.
  3. Your ideas matter—don’t be afraid to speak up!

In the last week of your internship, you were formally offered a permanent position as an Associate Copywriter at Avalere Health. Which key skills/learnings from your internship experience helped you adapt to your full-time role?

During my internship, I worked to hone my own voice and become more comfortable expressing my ideas. Now in my full-time role, I have interacted with more members of the team and presented some of my own creative concepts with confidence. Transitioning from intern to Associate Copywriter supported both my career development and personal growth, encouraging me to add my own flair to my writing and bring my unique brand to the table.

What do you find most rewarding about working for Avalere Health?

I love the organization’s emphasis on growth. There are so many avenues to explore at Avalere Health that can help prevent any feelings of stagnation in your job. There are a plethora of opportunities to switch career paths via our Fuel50 platform, online classes to upskill and pursue personal areas of interest via Coursera, mentorship programs, and both formal and informal ways of getting involved in projects outside of your immediate team.

Do you have any advice for future interns?

You are capable of more than you realize. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and try new things!
