Life as US Head of Client Partnerships

Nathan | US Head of Client Partnerships | Florida, US | 9/17/2023

Nathan, based in Florida, works as US Head of Client Partnerships in our Market Access team. Here, he discusses what he finds most rewarding in his role and in his team.

Why work for Avalere Health?

While the company has a stellar reputation as a world-class global pharmaceutical management consultancy, I was originally drawn (and still am) to Avalere Health because of the positive and uplifting people who work here. The people that I interact with on a day-to-day basis are genuinely kind, supportive, and compassionate, and make me feel valued.

What does it take to succeed in your role?

My role in client partnerships requires a mixture of different skill sets. First, the ability to listen to client challenges and needs and then determine the best solution to meet those needs. Second, technical expertise in market access and HEOR is key, as well as a proficiency in PowerPoint design and writing skills. Finally, a desire to collaborate with different teams across the broader Policy, Access, Value, and Evidence (PAVE) group and other capabilities within Avalere Health is essential for delivering successful projects.

What impact has your work made to Avalere Health?

I’ll share a recent piece of feedback from a colleague that made me feel very proud:

“Thank you for being just the best communicator, collaborator, and ensuring everyone is kept in touch as you hand across a project from Business Development to the Delivery Team. The level of support you are providing to hold our hand as we pick this up—but giving us room to take ownership and grow into the project with the client—is just perfect. Thank you! It’s truly appreciated and a model example.”

It’s feedback like this that reminds me of the daily impact we can all have on our teams and the work we produce.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

I enjoy my role because I get to focus on the creative aspect of dreaming up a project to help solve a client’s complex challenges. This role really utilizes the best I have to offer: creativity, people-relation skills, collaboration, and writing. I also enjoy meeting new people across the wider Avalere Health organization, creating new connections, and achieving cross-functional opportunities. Lastly, I’m constantly learning new things through interactions with some of the brightest and most experienced experts in the market access and HEOR fields. It’s very inspiring to work here!

How do you maintain a work-life balance?

I think the most important factor in maintaining work-life balance is to recognize that I’m never going to do everything perfectly every time or please everyone every time. Letting go of expectations of perfection has really helped me to develop a realistic path to doing good work consistently.

I also think it’s important for me to consistently practice self-care and enjoy my hobbies and social life. Prioritizing my mental health over the past year has helped to set me up for long-term success.

What do you most value in your team?

My team is very encouraging and honestly a lot of fun to work with! They help to augment and complement my skills and personality. Unfortunately, we don’t get to see each other very often, but when we do, we always treasure the opportunity to spend quality time together in person. My team also develops incredible relationships with our clients—this is evident through the positive feedback we receive from those clients!
